Mon équipe et moi avons reçu une formation d’Alana Doyle. Celle ci nous a offert un atelier sur les masques. Pendant deux jours, nous avons pu apprécier les compétences d’Alana qui a su d’une façon habile et dynamique nous conduire à une exploration intérieure peu habituelle. Tout au long de cet atelier, Alana a fait preuve d’une grande connaissance de l’être humain et nous a amenés à prendre conscience de nos capacités créatrices. Son approche à la fois douce et directive nous a guidés dans la relaxation et la découverte de soi.

La formation d’Alana à ceci de particulier qu’elle explore des avenues différentes. Innovatrice, sa méthode est à la fois amusante et interactive. Elle conduit le participant à se détacher du monde extérieur connu pour découvrir ses forces créatrices réarment explorées.

Je crois que quiconque participe aux ateliers d’Alana en ressort avec plus grande connaissance de soi et d’outils pour mieux comprendre les autres.

My performance and literary arts group,” Salt Spring theater Alive”, had the opportunity to benefit from Alana’s creative workshops. We invited Alana to work with a group of artists here on Salt Spring Island in a directive capacity, using her mask work process to help the artists create new material. She is an exceptional director. She has the ability to work intuitively and to crystallize connections which emerge in the work, without compromising the integrity of the artist’s original idea.

Alana was the artist in residence in my art center, for the summer intensive creative workshop.
As artist in residence Alana truly inspired participants to take risks with ideas, images and materials. Alana develops vital links between her life and her art. Her work draws us into a vivid mythical world.

The philosophy behind my center is about developing vital links between your life and your art. It is about taking risks with ideas, images and materials. Alana is just that kind of artist. I was fascinated by the way she presented the slide show of her work. It was quite unusual. She drew us into a vivid mythical world while simultaneously communicating her process and content. She inspired the participants in the true sense of what I consider to be the creative process. What also struck me is that Alana lives her art.

After seeing Alana Doyle’s work at Preville Fine Arts Centre, I had no hesitation in inviting her to give a theatre workshop, as part of the Explorations program, a McGill University summer program for gifted students.

Alana showed extraordinary creativity in exploiting scarce resources to maximum theatrical effect. She showed an ability to lead in an unobtrusive way, and working towards a demanding production goal from within the group…showed extraordinary creativity in transforming routine, even clichéd characters proposed by her students into unique and striking figures, wholly rejuvenating the roles and relationships in the presentation of which they formed a part.

I have facilitated workshops with Artist and Language & Writing Coach, Alana Doyle on two occasions on Salt Spring Island through my theatre and literary society, Salt Spring Theatre Alive. I attended both these sessions and as a writer and visual artist, I was truly excited by Alana’s approach to the creative process and with her unique and intuitive skills in language arts. I was able to tap into areas of my writing that had eluded me. Her ability to put flesh to characters and movement to the narrative brought my writing into a new realm and to take off with a momentum that had been missing. Unbeknownst to me prior to the class, I also carried the process into the visual arts narrative (I am a photographer) and I completed a series of photographic images along with a written narrative while attending her July 2016 workshop.

Part of the process is learning to shed what we “think” and try on what the characters and images “know” from the heart, followed by the pen and/or ink. I think Alana’s multiple talents make her a natural coach and teacher in numerous artistic fields. The building blocks are consistent and help to free the artist so that the work can be authentic and clean. Her style is like no other that I have experienced. You need to treat your creative self to Alana’s workshop or class – your work will take you places only your imagination could guess, and that is precisely where you want your work to be born.

I took Alana’s 4 week Crystal Language course this summer on Salt Spring Island and was amazed by how much I learned. Alana listened with a curiosity and openness that allowed me to stretch my thinking on the book I am writing. I loved the writing exercises she offered. They were intriguing and led to more clarity on the subject and subtleties of my book project.

Working with Alana is fun, as well as challenging, and full of humor. I like how she is still very much a student of writing as well as a teacher. She understands the difficulties of the creative process. Writing can be a lonely path, but I feel accompanied by Alana. I am grateful for her mentor-ship and guidance on my writing journey.

Je travaille avec Alana, de façon sporadique, depuis quelques années déjà. Sociologue rattachée au milieu de la santé, j’ai souvent utilisé ses services de traduction et de correction de textes pour peaufiner des conférences nationales et internationales; rédiger des articles scientifiques et; élaborer des dossiers d’embauche dans les universités. Travailler avec Alana permet beaucoup plus que de parfaire des textes : son maniement de la langue et son esprit de synthèse nous poussent à réfléchir davantage sur l’essence même de nos idées. J’ai eu l’occasion de travailler avec Alana pour l’écriture en anglais d’un article inspiré de ma recherche de maîtrise en sociologie. Durant un mois, nous nous sommes rencontrés à plusieurs reprises pour relire et réécrire mon texte en anglais. Ça n’a pas été facile parce que mon texte portait sur des processus sociaux complexes et, en même temps, essayait de montrer comment ces processus s’exprimaient dans la vie quotidienne des personnes. Alana a été la personne parfaite pour m’aider ! Ses questions précises et ses commentaires sur le texte m’ont encouragé à clarifier mes idées, puis ses suggestions qui donnaient toujours plus de vie à mon écriture, ont contribué au résultat d’un texte impeccable, capable de rendre compte tant de la complexité que de la quotidienneté de ce dont je traitais dans mon texte. Je suis très satisfaite du résultat, mais aussi du processus de révision du texte, qui a été en soi une expérience très agréable et intellectuellement enrichissante.

I am doing my Ph.D in Physics Engineering. Alana worked with me on preparing four articles for my Doctorate” Synthesis” exams. She also helped me to prepare a presentation on the durability of aeronautic materials which I gave in the United States. Alana also trained me for this presentation. She helped me to explore the natural vocal rhythms of English, and taught me public speaking techniques; which gave me the confidence and skills I needed, and which resulted in a very successful presentation at the congress…

In our process of writing together, Alana was patient, and listened actively. She would ask pertinent leading questions, offering a panorama of the material and clarifications of the context, along with accurate modifications of the text. Her guidance, and especially her command of the language, helped expedite the demanding writing and production goals I was facing.

Alana’s level of commitment inspires confidence. She was very available, and always respectful of deadlines.
